Described as former buskers, beggars, and executors of unsavory professions, ECHOGLASS are composed of DA McKenna, Remmy, Bo, JJ and Fritz. The indie collective release their music through Darkhouse Recordings. The band’s latest release is the four track EP entitled “Stories From The North” which mirrors their musical heritage in the great North West of England. The EP begins with what is to be one of its most potent voices, “Youth”. It is a song with seductive warmth and rich resonating vocal kisses enveloping the ear. It’s gentle but defined rhythmic persuasion and uncomplicated walk across the aural senses make the track instantly accessible and persuasive, its harmonic touch leaving a melodic residue on the body and emotions which sparks up active feelings.
Songs like “Sett End” with its feisty rhythmic temptation, ABC like melodic strikes, Bowie-esque lead vocals, and compelling emotive narrative, along with its crunchy guitar motifs and electro resonance, alongside the additional female harmonies, bring a richer soak of emotive elegance and triumphant energy, to entrap listener passions with greater contagious craft and imagination. This is alt-Britpop songwriting at its best with the skill to temper all aspects into a perfectly inciting wash.
It is fair to say that no tracks stray far from the core of ECHOGLASS’ intention to not allow one song to lie in the shade of another. Instead they all offer an impossible to resist melodic hand which is eagerly grasped by thoughts and heart.
For each unlikely, less dramatic moment, there is always a fire of enterprise in the likes of “Peppermint Place” with its shards of bass and keyboard delight, and anthemic call, as well as the sultry embrace of those deeply affecting vocals. This is a song which leaves tingles and raving aural hormones at large in its wake.
“Belgrave Road” engages with unreserved enterprise. The male female vocals is a spark to interest and intrigue admittedly. The song bubbles and simmers upon the senses with flushes of molten passion in places. Thus making up a quartet of tracks which especially leave a deep satisfaction.
They all trigger greater flames in a fire of ardor and pleasure, which erupts with the opening bar of the first track, and completed what is a tremendously evocative and thrilling album. Equipped with a virulent contagion of vocal and musical hooks, the song sets itself up as just one more irresistible triumph.
The EP presents a melodic smolder and emotional caress of captivating propositions which potently reminds us that ECHOGLASS forms part of Britain’s most imaginative and persistently compelling songwriters and artists.
Here the band bring all their emotively descriptive skills to bear whilst conjuring evocative croons in sound and texture. “Stories From The North” is a great opportunity for those new to ECHOGLASS to discover some essential and classically shaped modern pop music and for those in the know to discover some new treats and bask in the sound of a very special recording.
